CT Scan Tech - Up to $20,000 Sign On Bonus at Brown University Health
Under general supervision of the CT Manager, Lead CT Technologists, and the Imaging Coordinator, operates a CT scanner and related equipment to produce radiographs of designated anatomical areas. Collects and completes patient data and equipment operation records. Provides assistance to patients and Radiologists. Performs calibration tests and other quality control functions, and notifies service personnel as required. The essential functions reflect the needs of geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients. Fosters patient- and family-centered care in accordance with Brown University Health mission, vision, and values, considering lifespan and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities
Operates CT scanner and associated equipment, including calibration checks to ensure proper operation.
Energizes gantry, image processor, and x-ray power supply in proper sequence; positions patient and equipment.
selects width and thickness of tomography slice, scan speed, and table incrementation (proper protocol selection); uses computer commands in proper sequence to perform scans.
Collects and completes computerized and manual records on patient data; assigns and verifies the appropriate charge code.
Screens patient for diet preparation, drug/food sensitivities, and pregnancy by questioning patients and reviewing referrals/records to avoid adverse reactions.
Prepares supplies for contrast medium injection; operates the pressure injector.
Monitors patients and equipment during the scan for changes in condition.
Performs specialized non-routine computer functions (e.g., 2D, 3D, MIP, VRE) to assist in diagnosis.
Analyses equipment problems and malfunctions; makes minor repairs/adjustments; coordinates with service engineers as needed.
Maintains calibration results, service reports, installation and incident reports, utilization statistics, and equipment performance records.
Provides in-service education for students and staff technologists and maintains appropriate records.
May perform the function of a staff Radiologic Technologist as required.
Maintains CT Scan department workflow for maximum throughput.
Stays proficient in special procedures, including biopsy, drainage, and ablations.
Minimum Qualifications
Meets basic knowledge requirements of CT Scan Technologist; must be registered and in good standing with ARRT.
Current CPR certification from AHA (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
RI state radiation license and CT supplemental license from the DOH.
Two years of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology; ARRT registration.
Current, valid license from the Department of Health to practice in Rhode Island.
Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic radiologic procedures and computer console operation; deep knowledge of CT equipment operation and troubleshooting.
Interpersonal skills to effectively interface with patients, families, staff, and physicians; awareness of aging, development, and cultural patterns in care.
For CT Scan Technologist II: two professional references within the last three months and additional criteria from listed options (teaching roles, quality improvement, continuing education, committee work, publications, etc.).
Experience
Six months’ experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital radiology department, plus six months specialized CT scanner training.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work location primarily in the CT Scan area or related spaces with typical environmental considerations.
Exposure to radiation with proper safety procedures; potential for standing, walking, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Independent Action
Executes administrative tasks delegated by Lead CT Technologists, CT Manager, or Imaging Coordinator.
Operates independently within department policies; seeks supervisor input for complex problems.

Pay Range $38.78 - $64.00
