Overview Peds Cardiac Sonographer II (Sign-on bonus of $15,000 for external qualified candidates). The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II reports to the Pediatric Interventional Cardiac and Imaging Manager. Under indirect supervision, this role provides high-quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Pediatric Cardiologist, in accordance with hospital and departmental policies. Responsibilities include independent and efficient performance of clinical Pediatric Echo operations in hospital and procedural settings, entering full preliminary reports, and covering all MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab locations and shifts, including call rotation. The role also contributes to unit teamwork and prioritizes patient exams.

Qualifications and Requirements

Graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience.

Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, PE) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) in Pediatrics by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required; Fetal Echocardiography (FE) preferred.

Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Two years minimum pediatric echocardiography work experience performing M-Mode, 2-D, 3-D, Doppler, and color Doppler.

Fetal Echo and research experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and complex congenital heart disease, pre- and post-operative. Pediatric ICU and Pediatric Cath Lab experience preferred.

Willingness to travel to outreach locations and to take call for the Pediatric Echo Lab.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Responsibilities

Perform pediatric echocardiography exams with high quality imagery suitable for interpretation by pediatric cardiologists.

Enter full preliminary reports and ensure timely documentation.

Work across MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab locations and shifts, including call rotation.

Organize and prioritize patient exams; contribute to unit teamwork.

Coordinate with Pediatric Cardiologist and support team during outreach and procedural settings.
