Job Summary Weekend Only. The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II reports to the Pediatric Interventional Cardiac and Imaging Manager. Under indirect supervision, the Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II provides high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Pediatric Cardiologist in a professional manner that is consistent with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role requires independent and efficient performance of clinical Pediatric Echo operations in the hospital and procedural setting, entering full preliminary reports, covering all MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab locations and shifts including call rotation. The role organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork.

Responsibilities

Provide high quality echocardiograms for pediatric patients.

Enter full preliminary reports and cover all MUSC Pediatric Echo Lab locations and shifts.

Schedule and prioritize patient exams efficiently.

Participate in call rotation.

Travel to outreach locations to support Pediatric Cardiologists.

Maintain unit teamwork and adhere to hospital policies.

Qualifications

Graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience.

Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, PE) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Fetal Echocardiography (FE) preferred.

Associate of Arts/Science or a Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Two years minimum pediatric echocardiography work experience in performing M-Mode, 2-D, 3-D, Doppler, and color Doppler.

Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics and complex congenital heart disease.

Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Cath Lab preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).

Ability to take call for the Pediatric Echo Lab.

Ability to travel to outreach locations.

Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and working in various environments. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Vision, hearing, and other sensory capabilities as detailed.
