Performs radiologic exams and procedures. Provides patient privacy and confidentiality. Ensures patient care is performed in an efficient manner, meeting standards consistent with infection control policies and OLOLRMC Standards for Service Excellence. Responsible for safe operation of radiologic equipment utilized in patient care and maintains current knowledge of the operation of any equipment used.
Gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and health care providers. Verify radiographic requisition accuracy: procedure requested, doctor's written orders, clinical diagnosis. Confirm patient identity, gather information for appropriate type and dosage of contrast agent, evaluate risk of adverse reaction. Provides pre and post procedural explanation and instruction to patient/family. Practices standard precautions and maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. Documents all information in appropriate records.
Ensure work areas and equipment are clean, disinfected, presentable; dispose contaminated items appropriately. Operate Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) accurately and efficiently.
Observe radiation protection practices: adhere to federal and state radiation safety guidelines, departmental and hospital policies. Minimize radiation exposure to patients and self using ALARA principles. Monitor patient and staff exposure with a personnel monitoring device.
Produce diagnostic images: select appropriate equipment/accessories, ensure optimal image production, evaluate radiographic images for diagnostic quality, correct positioning, process images.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program.
Post-High School Vocational or Specialized Training.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic Technician (LSRT) license. New graduates eligible for ARRT and current LSRT or temporary license and BLS certification.
