Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Neurosurgery We are inviting Postdoctoral Research Fellows and Research Assistant positions in the Cerebrovascular Research Laboratory at the Department of Neurosurgery, McGovern Medical School, UTHealth Houston. The lab, led by PI Eunhee Kim, focuses on molecular mechanisms in stroke and brain arteriovenous malformation (bAVM). The goal is to translate findings into novel therapeutic strategies for patients.

Research projects include:

Developing animal models of stroke with comorbid conditions (hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes) to study post‑stroke stress response, immune response, and outcomes.

Investigating molecular factors involved in endothelial dysfunction, angiogenesis, and inflammation in bAVM pathophysiology.

Generating clinically relevant bAVM animal models (e.g., Park et al., 2021).

Collaborating with clinical teams, sharing human patient resources, and bridging pre‑clinical and clinical research.

Responsibilities:

Design and perform experiments, including animal modeling, molecular assays, and image analyses.

Conduct literature reviews and support project development.

Write and publish manuscripts in peer‑reviewed journals.

Present findings at scientific conferences.

Assist in developing collaborative projects within and outside the lab.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, or related field (or Ph.D. candidate).

Strong background in molecular biology, animal models, and data analysis.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Minimum Education:

Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or Biology (or Ph.D. candidate) for postdoc fellow position.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside in the State of Texas.
