Duties / Responsibilities

Conduct field trials in Georgia to evaluate insecticides and insecticide rotations for effects on cotton jassid and non‑target cotton pests (e.g., stink bugs, plant bugs, white flies), beneficial insects, plant injury, and lint yield and fiber quality. Measure the effects of common insecticides applied at planting on cotton jassid populations prior to bloom, plant injury, and yield. Coordinate and summarize data from field trial locations in Florida and Alabama.

Conduct a literature review and develop new objective(s) to improve management practices for cotton jassid.

Communicate research developments and results through meetings with the PI, collaborating scientists, and conference presentations.

Position Summary & Objectives As a post‑doctoral researcher, you will coordinate and summarize data for the following objectives:

Objective 1: Field‑test different insecticides and insecticide rotations for effects on cotton jassid and non‑target cotton pests, beneficial insects, plant injury, lint yield, and fiber quality.

Objective 2: Measure the effects, if any, of common insecticides applied at planting on cotton jassid populations prior to bloom, plant injury, and yield.

Qualifications

A completed Ph.D. in entomology or a related field.

Demonstrated skills in cotton production, insect pest management, research project conduct, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.

Physical demands: field data collection; driving as needed.

Background investigation required (criminal record, credentials, employment history, drug test if applicable). Refer to the UGA Background Check website.
