Responsibilities

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate manner to assist laboratory professional staff and facilitate production.

Sort and receive specimens in the department.

Perform routine instrument maintenance on equipment.

Centrifuge specimens, print extra labels, record data (temperature charts), and manage specimen storage and retrieval.

Prepare reagents and media in the department.

Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting into sample cups, checking for clots and fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.

Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.

Resolve pending lists and find missing samples.

Decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous material.

Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.

Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations.

Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.

Maintain files for department records.

Change gas cylinders as needed.

Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Medical assistant training is helpful.

Math and science courses preferred.

No work experience required.

Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.

Strong retention of information once learned.

Professional courtesy and respect when interacting with coworkers, internal and external customers.
