Overview
The Solar Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and their components. This safety-sensitive role includes performing regular inspections, troubleshooting issues and closely adhering to JMS Safety policies and industry standards. Responsibilities
Promote and follow JMS safety standards on-site, prioritizing and demonstrating safe behavior Install, test and commission solar PV panels and related equipment including inverters, wiring and racking systems Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents specific to renewable energy projects to ensure accurate routing and connection of components Identify and resolve deficiencies in photovoltaic (PV) system installations or materials Perform and document quality assurance checks according to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and project standards Inspect field conditions and identify issues, safety hazards, and potential cost saving measures as they arise. Resolve issues or escalate up the chain of command as appropriate Actively participate in Plan of the Day and Safety meetings Maintain accurate documentation including required labeling of system components and hardware, documentation of completed work, materials used and any changes or issues encountered Troubleshoot and repair wiring issues and component failures during installation and testing Adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and job site hazard assessments Comply with OSHA, NFPA 70E and site-specific safety requirements in all daily activities and tasks Other duties as assigned Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 2 years of experience in the solar industry or related electrical trade Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to fall protection and safety protocols Working knowledge of the Solar Photovoltaic craft and basic construction principles Ability to read and interpret work instructions, plans and specifications and other technical documents Proficiency in the use of electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools Mechanical inclination and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose and resolve system issues Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with diverse project teams Work Environment
