Coding Auditor & Provider Educator – GI Alliance GI Alliance

is seeking an experienced Coding Auditor & Provider Educator. The role focuses on researching and analyzing medical records with coding discrepancies, validating coding, and preparing audit reports that summarize findings and recommend corrective actions.

Responsibilities

Conduct physician chart audits to identify incorrect coding and prepare findings reports.

Examine claims for compliance with billing and processing guidelines and identify fraud and abuse opportunities.

Report coding patterns to the Coding Auditor & Provider Education Manager and recommend corrective measures.

Provide second‑level review of billing performance to ensure legal and procedural compliance.

Give feedback to providers on billing and documentation policies and educate on ambiguous or non‑specific documentation.

Perform quality assessment of records, including verification of electronic and handwritten documentation.

Abstract and assign appropriate ICD‑10, HCPCS/CPT codes and modifiers for all diagnosis and procedures in outpatient and inpatient settings.

Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and federal regulations using CPT, HCPCS II, and ICD‑10 materials and the Federal Register.

Manage time effectively to meet all required deadlines.

Collaborate in a team environment with the Coding Auditor & Provider Education Manager and other staff.

Enhance professional growth through in‑service meetings, educational programs, and conferences.

Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED.

Professional Coding Certification (AAPC: Certified Professional Coder – CPC) required.

Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) within one year of employment.

Extensive knowledge of ICD‑10, HCPCS II, and CPT codes.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Skilled in creating summary spreadsheets, documents, reports, and presentations.

Knowledge of current third‑party billing and collection regulations and requirements.

Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with administrative and clinical staff.

Maintain 95% accuracy coding rate.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in provider education and Evaluation and Management coding reviews.

Minimum of 1 year of Gastroenterology coding experience.

Equipment Operated Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Work Environment Primarily remote, with occasional on‑site collaborative meetings when possible.

Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities. Position may involve standing, sitting, bending, and reaching. May work at computer monitors for prolonged periods with potential eye strain and muscle pain. May require light lifting of no greater than 20 pounds and some offsite travel (10% or less).

Travel

Some travel required to facilitate integration of new business and business development opportunities.
