Laars Heating Systems is seeking a Mid-Level Electro Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team focused on the design, development, and optimization of commercial heating systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in mechanical, electrical, and control systems who is passionate about applying mechatronic principles to energy-efficient, high-performance heating solutions. Location: Rochester, NH. Key Responsibilities
Design and Integration: Develop and integrate electromechanical subsystems into commercial platforms (e.g., control valves, ignition systems, pumps, sensors). Design/architect control algorithms and logic for thermal systems, including combustion control and safety systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless system integration. Prototyping and Testing: Build and test prototypes for new features and components. Develop test plans and procedures to validate system performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., ASME, UL, CSA). Documentation and Compliance: Prepare technical documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, control logic flowcharts, and test reports. Ensure designs meet industry codes, efficiency standards, and environmental regulations. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of existing boiler platforms through cost reduction, reliability enhancement, and energy efficiency initiatives. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 5–8 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in HVAC, thermal systems, or industrial equipment. Proficiency in control systems design, embedded systems, and mechatronic integration. Experience with PLC programming, microcontrollers, DAQ systems. Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks). Working knowledge of safety standards and codes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to meet physical requirements, such as standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechatronics or Control Systems Engineering. Experience with combustion systems, gas flow regulation, or boiler certification processes. Understanding of IoT integration in industrial equipment. Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and root cause analysis (RCA) techniques.
