Overview The Millwright Mechanical Repairperson/Welder performs mechanical maintenance, repair, modifications, and installation work on plant buildings, machinery, dust collectors, and lubrication. Maintenance and repairs include welding and cutting as needed. They use proper tools and equipment to perform tack and finish welds on fabricated steel components or metal parts as specified by blueprints and welding fixtures/methods, while maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
Exhibits and maintains safe work and environmental compliance practices
Perform all types of fabrication, construction, erection, installation, maintenance, repair, modification and rework of machinery, equipment (non-automotive), and structures per blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions
Diagnose failures, malfunctions, and other breakdowns of machinery, equipment, systems, and structures; modify, rebuild or repair by fabricating, fitting, adjusting, installing, constructing, disassembling, reassembling, and welding
Fabricate frames, structures, and component parts from sheet metal, flat or rolled stock; perform welding, brazing, and cutting
Perform layout involving straight lines, horizontal/vertical alignment, and angular surfaces from blueprints and sketches
Check own work for dimensions, contour alignment, fit, safety, and conformance to specifications
Set up and use rigging and cribbing as required
Pick up parts from storeroom; return tools and materials after completion; keep areas clean, orderly, and safe
Performs duties of Dust Collector and Luber; perform clean up duties in all areas of the facility
Conduct electrical and electronic maintenance and repair as needed
Perform mobile equipment maintenance as required
Education High school diploma/GED
Requirements/Qualifications
Familiarity with computers
Ability to read blueprints
Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English
Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces
Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours)
Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven/slippery); climb on equipment
Must be able to lift and carry items up to 70 lbs.
Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles; stoop and crawl under/enclosed spaces
Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
Exposure to noise requiring hearing protection
Exposure to cement, clay, limestone and various chemicals
Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
