The Pediatric Emergency Department provides pediatric care in child-friendly spaces with 24/7 coverage by board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and nurses certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric trauma care. The department includes a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit and Child Life Specialists to support children and families. Responsibilities
Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Obtain and record vital signs. Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy, and suctioning (oral, nasal, and endotracheal). Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, and saline locks. Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes. Apply orthopedic appliances and simple splints. Size crutches and teach crutch walking. Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, and related procedures as directed. Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices as needed. Transport patients and specimens. Assist with sterile procedures and maintain supplies and equipment. Maintain patient confidentiality and respect privacy. Administer fluids and medications as supervised. Minimum qualifications
Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program Preferred qualifications
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) One year of experience as an EMT-P Experience in a hospital setting or city ambulance Physical requirements
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; extensive standing and walking. Medium work - exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal protective equipment
