Pharmacy Technician II - Inpatient, Full Time - Evenings at UChicago Medicine. Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system as a Pharmacy Technician II in the Inpatient Pharmacy. The role involves preparing medications and supplies for dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist and rotating through all work areas of the pharmacy department. The Inpatient Pharmacy supports direct patient care for patients of all ages and populations. Responsibilities
Prepare inventories, order drugs and supplies from the pharmacy storeroom, receive drugs and stock shelves in various pharmacy locations. Transport medications (excluding those handled through the controlled substance distribution system) to nursing units and clinics; add patient-specific and re-stock medications to Omnicell machines; return discontinued and outdated medications to the Pharmacy. Assist in distributing medications when the pharmacist is unavailable, prioritize orders (including STAT) and seek pharmacist for checking when necessary. Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy department, maintain work areas, perform inspections as directed, answer phone calls, and assist in training new pharmacists and technician employees. Triages phone communications according to policy; collect quality assurance data and maintain workload records; perform other patient- and drug-related duties within the licensure scope. Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing under supervision of a pharmacist, including unit-dose packaging, compounding, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, desensitization medications, high-cost biologics, and pediatric IVs; restock CPR cart trays. Prepare outpatient prescriptions and perform cashiering duties in the Outpatient Pharmacy as needed. Comply with departmental, hospital, and regulating agency policies and applicable state and federal laws; complete annual technician competencies in a timely fashion. Assist in training of new pharmacists and technician employees in their work areas. Required Qualifications
Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) IV room non-hazardous and hazardous compounding required Minimum of one year pharmacy experience, or completion of an ASHP-approved pharmacy technician vocational course, or student enrolled in a college of pharmacy or at the University of Chicago. Graduates of foreign pharmacy programs are eligible for consideration Ability to work as a team player to provide superior patient care Good communication skills to interact with patients and staff Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures; knowledge of medications and medical supplies; good record-keeping practices Successful completion of core technician competencies and yearly competencies Attention to detail; strong verbal communication skills; computer literacy Sensitivity to patient care issues pertinent to pharmacy practice Preferred Qualifications
Illinois Pharmacy Technician Certification is highly desirable Position Details
