Dental Hygienist
Department: Dentistry | General Practice Residency
Position Type: Regular, Full‑time (First Shift)
Scheduled Hours: 40 per week, Monday‑Friday 7:30am‑4:30pm.
Location: Postle Hall (0024)
Salary: $35.24 - $44.00 per hour.
Job Summary The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Hygienist to join its General Practice Residency (GPR) unit in the Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry. The GPR provides comprehensive general dentistry at the postdoctoral level, including hospital‑based dentistry and treatment of medically compromised and special needs patients. In this role you will work with respected clinicians, educators, and GPR residents to provide the best care to patients, including prevention and treatment of oral diseases, taking and developing dental X‑rays, cleaning teeth, placing sealants and fluorides, and educating patients on oral hygiene and nutrition.
Responsibilities
Prevent and treat disease, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity.
Take and develop dental X‑rays.
Clean teeth, place sealants and fluorides.
Teach patients proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Take patient history and educate on nutrition to optimize dental health.
Stock and set up operatories; manage patient records.
Use both hands, manual dexterity, and foot to manipulate instruments and equipment.
Operate dental equipment and maintain visual and communication standards.
Work from a dental stool and stand or sit for extended periods.
Qualifications
Two‑ or Four‑year Dental Hygiene degree.
Ohio Dental Hygienist license by the Ohio State Dental Board.
Desired: Dental office experience.
Physical Requirements
Ability to use both hands, fingers, and feet for instrument manipulation.
Manual dexterity, motor coordination, and hand‑eye coordination.
Visual acuity and communication/language development.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemical hazards, vibrating equipment, sharp instruments, latex.
Background Check Requires successful criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check; a drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
