Tisbury Surgery is an innovative G.P practice based in southwest rural Wiltshire and is seeking an enthusiastic part‑time treatment roompractice nurse to join the team.
Main duties of the job The applicant will be involved in treatment room activities including wound care, immunisations and cervical screening. A qualification in asthma or a willingness to training in this area, is essential.
About us Tisbury Surgery is a small but very supportive and friendly team. We look after over 4000 patients in Tisbury and the surrounding villages. We support training within the team and we also have GP registrars and student nurses.
Job responsibilities Job Summary
As a registered healthcare professional with a wide range of clinical experience from a variety of settings you will work as a member of the Tisbury Surgery clinical team.
Your role will include all Practice Nurse duties which you have had training for.
Under direct or indirect GP supervision, you will use your experience to practice flexibly and with increasing autonomy.
Patient care will be delivered using advanced clinical skills, incorporating history taking, physical assessment, diagnosis and, onward referral where necessary.
The role will ensure consistent, high‑quality person‑centred care is delivered to patients by assessing individual patient needs, formulating diagnosis and initiating appropriate holistic, evidence‑based treatment with the development of a personalised management plan, including administration of medications via PGD.
You will have undertaken the relevant training courses to enable you to work autonomously, safely and within your high level of competency. You will be supported by the lead GP and Lead nurse for ongoing training. As well as this you will be expected to conduct your own independent learning.
Job Responsibilities:
Clinical Knowledge and Skills-
ECG recording
Chaperoning
Health Checks including referrals
Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies and encourage principles of self‑care
Wound management to include stitch and clip removal, acute post op, and infected wound management
Chronic wounds including leg ulcers when necessary
Adhering to the wound formulary
Recognise adult and child safeguarding situations and act appropriately.
Provide vaccination and immunisation programmes for adults and children
To provide medications and injections under a PSD
Processing and management of laboratory samples
Cervical smears including administration for the recall and failsafe processes
Involvement of mass vaccination programmes e.g. flu clinics and Covid vaccinations
Supply or administer medication and treatments under PGD.
To refer to and liaise with other agencies, including secondary care providers, community nursing teams, hospice colleagues as required.
Act as an advocate for the patient.
Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols and within NICE guidelines and with referral to QOF and enhanced services specifications as relevant
Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary and recognising the importance of communication
Keep check on all equipment and supplies with relevance to expiry dates as part of the nursing team
Administrative and professional responsibilities
Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team
Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system using appropriate codes
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and participate in audits
Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required
Assist in the formulation of Practice policies and procedures and develop appropriate protocols with application to enhanced services specifications
Deal with complaints promptly and according to the practice policy
Work in accordance with CQC guidelines
Support stock checks in GPs rooms, refrigerators, storage areas etc. on a weekly basis as part of the nursing team
Research projects
Co‑operate and participate as required in any research projects within the Practice
Staff training and supervision
You will have an active role in the training and supervision of student nurses.
You will support all training roles in the surgery such as registrars and GPAs when necessary.
HCAs will work under the delegation of nurses when appropriate, such as following wound care plans.
Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality
Work in conjunction with other members of staff where necessary to ensure accurate and timely reporting, audits, etc.
Understand own role and scope and identify how this may develop over time
Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development and keep accurate records of training in collaboration with the practice manager
Health & Safety:
Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory/contractual/professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
Undertaking periodic infection control training
Waste management including collection, handling, segregation, container management, storage and collection
Decontamination control procedures, management and training, and equipment maintenance
