The Opportunity Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated person to function as a Mid‑level Mechanical Engineer in the design of mechanical systems supporting Nuclear Power Generation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad.
Under general supervision, perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems of responsibility.
Acquire knowledge of Black & Veatch and industry standards and implement them in project development.
Prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Instrument and/or Service Air Systems.
Experience with De‑mineralized (DM) water supply and makeup systems.
Experience with Service and potable water supply systems.
Experience with Natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas supply systems.
Experience with closed‑cycle cooling water systems.
Experience with high‑pressure, intermediate‑pressure, low‑pressure, or auxiliary steam systems.
Experience with feedwater and condensate systems.
Experience with CO₂ supply systems.
Experience with calculations including pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat‑exchanger sizing, and atm. tank sizing.
Experience with P&ID development.
Experience with air, gas, water, and steam system design and engineering work.
Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of 1 year of related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search). Candidates must be U.S. citizens. Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients.
Certifications
Engineering‑in‑Training (EIT)
Work Environment and Schedule
Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use; ability to maintain focus and attention to detail.
Physical tasks during site visits such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
