Role Overview
Team Leader – Controls Engineering; a dual-role position combining leadership responsibilities with hands-on programming. This role is split approximately 50% technical leadership and 50% programming, overseeing controls-related project work while directly contributing to system design, development, and testing. Responsibilities
Lead and manage the controls engineering team in the design, development, and testing of automated control components and systems Plan, schedule, and allocate internal resources and external contractors for project needs Build and maintain relationships with contractors to support extended resource requirements Collaborate with mechanical engineering and electrical design teams Create and review machine functionality documents with customers to define intended functions Program and implement control systems, including
PLCs, HMIs, robots, vision systems, laser welding, and leak testers Define and document I/O lists for control systems Debug and troubleshoot automated machinery and control systems Support machine runoff (in-house or at customer site) and ensure customer approval Write technical machine operating manuals and documentation Ensure compliance with all safety standards and promote a safe working environment Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent Minimum of
5 years of experience
in machine automation Strong programming experience with
Allen Bradley, Siemens , and robot programming (both offline and via teach pendant) Hands-on experience with
Fanuc, Staubli, Kuka
(Motoman familiarity a plus) Proficiency in multiple PLC coding formats (LAD, STL, FBD, SCL, etc.) Ability to design and implement complex control system architectures Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols (ProfiNet, Profibus, Ethernet, etc.) Skilled at reading and interpreting
electrical and pneumatic schematics Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in automation environments Familiarity with machine safety standards Proficiency in
MS Office (Word, Excel, Project) Strong written communication skills, including technical documentation and code clarity Ability to travel up to
30%
for customer site commissioning and runoff Additional Details
