Overview An established automation and controls solutions provider in the Greater Cleveland area is seeking a Lead Controls Engineer to drive complex automation projects across multiple industries. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer ready to take ownership of system architecture, mentor others, and play a hands‑on role in designing and delivering innovative control solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee design, development, and implementation of PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems (primarily Allen‑Bradley and Siemens platforms).
Lead all phases of automation projects — from concept, hardware selection, and programming through testing and commissioning.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between electrical, mechanical, and process systems.
Create and maintain detailed control system documentation including panel layouts, I/O lists, and network diagrams.
Provide on‑site startup support, system debugging, and customer training (approximately 10–15% travel).
Serve as a technical mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
6+ years of experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems.
Proficiency with Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix and Siemens TIA Portal environments.
Experience with motion control, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Profinet).
Solid knowledge of electrical design principles and safety standards (NFPA 79, ISO, IEC).
Preferred Experience
Robotics or motion integration (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, or KUKA).
Experience with data integration, MES connectivity, or IIoT/Industry 4.0 solutions.
Prior team leadership or project management experience within an automation environment.
Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for panel design.
