Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Hartsville is seeking a qualified adjunct Plumbing Instructor to provide part-time instruction in basic to intermediate plumbing systems, codes, and safety practices. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed plumber or construction professional to share industry knowledge and mentor the next generation of skilled trades workers. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. $30/hr; potential for full-time.
Job Duties
Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in residential and commercial plumbing systems. Teach key topics such as blueprint reading, pipefitting, fixture installation, drainage, venting, water supply, and plumbing code compliance. Supervise and guide students during lab/shop activities with an emphasis on safety, precision, and real-world application. Support student skill development and career readiness for industry employment or apprenticeship programs. Collaborate with full-time instructors and staff to ensure instructional quality and curriculum alignment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; postsecondary certificate/diploma in plumbing or related field preferred.
Minimum five (5) years of full-time, verifiable industry experience within the past five (5) years.
Ability to obtain any required instructional certifications as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous teaching, training, or mentorship experience.
Familiarity with NCCER curriculum and/or Tennessee Residential/Commercial Plumbing Code.
Knowledge of instructional safety practices in a lab or shop environment.
Valid Limited Licensed Plumber (LLP) or current Tennessee-issued journeyman/master plumber license.
Associate Degree.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Technical Knowledge: Proficient in residential and commercial plumbing systems, including tools, materials, techniques, safety codes, and blueprint interpretation.
Instructional Skill: Ability to teach students using hands-on, individualized instructional methods aligned to trade competency standards.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for delivering clear instruction, feedback, and safety guidelines.
Organization: Capable of planning lessons, maintaining records, and managing lab/shop environments effectively.
Adaptability: Able to teach students of varying ages and skill levels while adjusting to diverse learning styles and needs.
Team Collaboration: Willingness to work as part of a team in a student-centered environment.
Commitment to Student Success: Passion for mentoring, training, and preparing students for employment in the skilled trades.
