North Shore Steel
We are seeking an experienced Welder for Greens Bayou Pipe Mill, in east Houston. The Welder repairs and builds piping systems using specialized welding equipment.
Responsibilities
Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as SAW, MIG, FCAW, and SMAW
Determines the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Sets up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
Repairs pipe and other products by welding pieces and filling gaps
Repairs the flaws in pipe found by quality control after production in the Pipe Repair Station
Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Cleans inside the pipe before welding, cuts the area of the weld by using a carbon arc and prepares the proper equipment for welding
Maintains work area and keeps equipment clean and orderly
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Previous experience as a welder preferably pipeline welding
Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
Current knowledge of the ANSI, API, AWS, and ASME standards
Ability to interpret schematics
Awareness and experience in all welding gear
Physical Requirements
Able to stand or crouch for a long period of time
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Able to work in outdoor climates
