About the Position

The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia is seeking a Graduate Program Manager who will support School of Data Science Ph. D. students to meet their personal and professional goals. This role serves Data Science Ph.D. students while collaborating with all staff, faculty program directors, teaching faculty, and the academic operations team. About the School

The University of Virginia School of Data Science—the first of its kind in the nation—is guided by common goals: to further discovery, share knowledge, and make a positive impact on society through collaborative, open, and responsible data science research and education. Founded in fall 2019 through the largest gift in UVA history, the school positions the university to play national and international leadership roles in the global digital future. The School of Data Science offers a minor in Data Science, the B.S. in Data Science, the M.S. in Data Science in two formats (an 11-month, full-time residential program in Charlottesville, Virginia, and an online program spanning five part-time semesters), and a growing Ph.D. in Data Science. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key job functions: Key Responsibilities

Academic Advising —

You will serve as the frontline contact for Ph.D. students and faculty. This includes advising students on enrollment requirements and tracking academic progress for program milestones such as qualifying exams, defenses, and graduation. You will work closely with faculty on curricular offerings and timing to ensure student success. Academic Program Management —

This role provides administrative coordination of an academic program and works closely with the Ph.D. Program Director. You will collaborate with leadership to draft policies, develop procedures, set timelines, implement program reviews, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures. You will work across functional areas by building and maintaining student-focused processes within admissions, marketing, student affairs, career services, and related areas. Instructional Support —

Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional support (Graduate Teaching Assistants, Instructional Assistants, Graders) for every Data Science course across all programs. Student Programming and Event Planning —

Plan and implement program-specific academic and co-curricular events. This includes assisting with program budget planning and administration, space allocation, staff supervision, and other administrative tasks. Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of academic advising or related academic functions within higher education. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain close and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff colleagues, and graduate students to organize and lead them to produce top-quality and strategically effective work. Exemplary communication skills. Established skills in project management, problem solving, managing details, and process improvement. Independence, initiative, and self-motivation; a commitment to inclusive excellence. Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 and virtual meetings (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Sharepoint). Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree Experience with University student information systems (e.g., SIS, Stellic), learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and/or survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics) Anticipated Salary Range

$55,000 - 70,000 Anticipated Start Date
