The Town of East Hampton is seeking an Automotive Mechanic I in the Highway Department at the annual rate of $54,222.27 for a 40-hour work week. The employee in this position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of Highway Department vehicles. Responsibilities include: Tune-ups Brake adjustments Clutch work Replacement of belts and pumps Replacement, rotation and repair of tires and checking tire pressures Inspects, services and repairs batteries Change oil filters, cleans and replaces air filters as needed Fill vehicles with required fluids as necessary; includes oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid Scans computers for any codes and reports to Fleet Service Manager or superior Automotive Mechanic Drains and refills crank cases; checks and lubricates transmissions, differentials and rear axle housings Washes and polishes automobiles and truck bodies May inspect vehicles for mechanical defects or assist in repairs and mechanical maintenance; may perform safety checks on all vehicles May occasionally operate automotive equipment for service and test purposes Observes and ensures compliance with all safety procedures and policies Maintains a clean workstation and organizes all tools and equipment to the Town of East Hampton's guidelines This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the annual rate of pay is $54,222.27 with benefits, including paid vacation, enrollment in the New York State and Local Retirement System, health care, and dental and vision coverage. Minimum qualifications include either (a) Completion of one (1) year of vocational education courses in either a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in automotive mechanics; or, (b) One (1) year of experience in minor repairs and preventive maintenance on automotive equipment; or, (c) Satisfactory equivalent combination of the above education and experience. Special Requirements
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of the appropriate license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The type of license required will be determined by the appointing authority with respect to the type of vehicle to be operated; license must be maintained throughout employment in this title. Candidate must submit an application to Suffolk County Department of Human Resources, Personnel and Civil Service.
