This role is filled on a
Day Shift 6:00am-2:30pm Sunday-Thursday .
Responsibilities
Data center subject‑matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems (Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, Building Monitoring and Control).
Track and trend operational characteristics.
Mentor junior staff.
Work with the Site Data Center Manager to track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.
Provide guidance to the Manager on maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems.
Ensure data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, including analysis of existing operating conditions, recommendation of new technologies, and improvement of overall efficiency and cost reduction.
Manage systems to avoid unplanned, customer‑impacting outages.
Manage the data floor and back‑of‑house mechanical loading capacity to ensure cooling system efficiency.
Provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the entire data center.
Serve as a primary knowledge expert in fire and electrical codes.
Prepare technical documentation for preventive or corrective maintenance procedures.
Assist the Manager with database management of maintenance discrepancies and resolve site issues based on agreed priorities.
Trouble‑ticket management.
Work‑order completion process.
Overhead installations, cage build‑outs, rack and stack, and infrastructure projects (internal/customer).
Navigate and utilize a CMMS system and use developed procedures to solve problems.
Assist with asset and consumable inventory management and ensure proper labeling of all equipment.
Ensure processes are completed in a timely manner with respect to SLAs and upload data to OSS.
Provide physical security and day‑to‑day exceptional customer service and support.
Incident escalation and report writing.
Monitor the building fire alarm system and perform regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to findings.
Adhere to and promote CoreSite’s Principles of Operational Excellence, culture, and 8 Guiding Principles.
Requirements Knowledge:
Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in facilities and data center environments, including electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pre‑action sprinkler systems.
Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and building codes regarding fire life safety.
Expert knowledge of fiber optics/cabling infrastructure and industry best practices.
Expert knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
Expert knowledge and experience with data trending/tracking/analysis and ability to rapidly learn and use PC‑based, integrated critical monitoring systems.
Skills:
5‑7 years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (chilled water, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, VFDs, pumps, HVAC equipment, BMS/PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generators, fuel systems, 480/277/208/120 V distribution, static UPS systems, double interlock pre‑action systems).
Proven leadership skills.
Expert in pulling, dressing, and terminating fiber and copper communications cabling.
Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware, servers, network switches, structured cabling.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Abilities:
Effective communication with customers and internal staff.
Coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades.
Rapid learning and problem resolution during normal and after‑hours work.
Operate in a process‑driven team environment.
Solve problems logically and multitask multiple projects.
Operate hand and machine tools (hammer, drill, saw, etc.).
Operate electrical tools such as a multimeter or infrared camera.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data center, hospital, or power plant preferred).
Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, references, employment and education verifications, DMV and credit check.
