Data Center Operations Technician IV - Night Shift (OR1) At CoreSite we empower a more connected future through high-performance data centers and interconnection solutions.

Night Shift 10:00pm-8:00am, Wednesday – Saturday.

The Data Center Technician IV must possess an expert level of knowledge and will be responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, fire life safety systems, and communications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Data center subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.

Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems (Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, Building Monitoring and Control).

Track and trend operational characteristics.

Mentor junior staff.

Work with the site Data Center Manager to track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance schedule.

Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems.

Analyze existing operating conditions, recommend new technologies, and improve overall efficiency and cost reduction.

Manage systems to avoid unplanned, customer‑impacting outages.

Manage the data floor and back‑of‑house mechanical loading capacity to ensure the cooling system operates at highest efficiency.

Provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the entire data center.

Primary knowledge expert in fire and electrical codes.

Technical writing capacity for procedures for preventive or corrective maintenance activities.

Assist Data Center Manager with database management of maintenance discrepancies and resolve site issues based on agreed priorities.

Trouble ticket management, work order completion process, infrastructure projects (internal/customer), cage build‑outs, overhead installations, rack and stack.

Navigate and utilize a CMMS system.

Use developed procedures to solve problems.

Assist in asset and consumable inventory management and proper labeling of all equipment.

Ensure processes completed in a timely manner for SLA and data uploaded to OSS.

Provide physical security within the CoreSite premises.

Day‑to‑day exceptional customer service and support.

Incident escalation and report writing.

Monitor building fire alarm system and complete regular facility and security tours.

Qualifications

Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a facility and data center environment including electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDU, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH, pre‑action sprinkler systems.

Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues and building codes for fire life safety.

Expert knowledge of fiber optics/cabling infrastructure and industry best practices.

Expert knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc flash protection, OSHA, state regulations).

Expert knowledge and experience with data trending, tracking and analysis and ability to rapidly learn and use PC‑based, integrated monitoring systems.

Minimum 5–7 years experience installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems including chilled water, large centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, VFDs, pumps, HVAC equipment, CRAC/CRAH, humidification systems, BMS, PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generator systems, fuel/oil systems, 480/277 / 208/120 electrical, static UPS systems and double interlock pre‑action systems.

Proven leadership and technical skills.

Proven expert and ability to pull, dress, terminate fiber and copper communications cabling.

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

5 or more years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preference to data center, hospital, or power plant experience).

Pass extensive background check, criminal history, references, employment and education verifications.

Physical Demands

Reach with hands & arms 1/3 – 2/3 of the time.

Lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 of the time.

Work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, on‑call support.
