The primary role of the Maintenance Electrical Technician is to lead the maintenance team to support company objectives related to maintaining and enhancing equipment to support production requirements. Responsibilities include setup, repair, install, and maintenance of machinery equipment including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; performing preventative maintenance; measuring and calibrating equipment. The role requires leadership abilities and a strong mechanical/electrical aptitude; the candidate should work with internal and external customers, as part of the maintenance team, and be able to work independently. The role also supports Safety, Quality and Good Manufacturing Practices and Preventive Maintenance programs. Summary Of Essential Job Duties
Performs all production equipment setups as required to meet operational needs. Supports and completes preventive and planned maintenance of mechanical, electrical and utilities equipment including but not limited to: cleaning, inspecting, setup, diagnosing, replacement, testing and continuous improvements. Leads efforts to build new and enhance equipment through continuous improvement upgrades. Inspect visually and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunction. Identifies and reports the need for repairs to Maintenance Management. Collaborates with previous shifts’ maintenance and production employees to review the schedule and current runs, identifying repair needs and planning product changeovers. Communicates with other departments in a professional manner on equipment repair status. Documents events to provide effective information for problem solving. Leads in diagnosing mechanical and electrical malfunctions. Leads assembly and rebuilding of high-valued equipment. Fabricates, assembles and installs mechanical/electrical systems using appropriate tools. Teaches others to use shop equipment or programs needed to perform daily functions. Mentors and trains team members to enhance knowledge and skills in mechanical and electrical systems. Leads projects and continuous improvement efforts with Engineering and Maintenance Managers as needed. Completes all tasks while adhering to industry guidelines including Plant Safety, Food Safety, SQF, ISO and all internal/external audits. Qualifications And Competencies
Knowledge & Skills
Basic computer literacy: online searches, email, attachments, and basic email features. Ability to read, write and interpret English safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to perform basic arithmetic including units of measure. Problem solving in variable situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Experience with manufacturing equipment including 3 phase motors, control wiring, 24VDC, 90VDC, 120VAC, 208/220VAC, 480VAC. Experience with controls for conveyor systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps and valves. Knowledge of production machinery (e.g., fillers, rinsers, cappers, case packers, case formers, coolers, pasteurizers). Lock-Out Tag-Out, Hot Work, Confined Space and HECP training preferred. Ability to read electrical schematics and use measuring tools/test equipment. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Mechanical aptitude; familiarity with tools such as drill press, chop saw, port-a-band, sawzall preferred. Experience with multimeters, amp probes, megohm meters, Panelview. Educational/Experience Requirements
High School/GED, plus vocational school or technical training in electronics. Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, statutory codes, and operation of electrical equipment. Knowledge of food processing/packaging and/or flexible packaging is a plus. Experience with ISO standards preferred. Work Requirements
Physical Demands
Ability to climb in overhead structures, work beneath machines, and in close quarters. High attention to safety when handling electrical power. Exposure to high voltage electricity. Regularly lift, bend, reach, twist and turn; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Stand, use hands, and perform repetitive motions; frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking and hearing. Specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; eye strain may occur. Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity; ability to grasp.
