Position Overview We have an exciting opening for a Purchasing Specialist in Forest City, NC. This position obtains the best quality, service, and value for products and services through effective bidding, negotiation, and supplier management. The role involves identifying manufacturing needs, selecting suppliers, negotiating contracts, and arranging delivery of critical, complex, and/or high‑dollar parts, equipment, services, and materials.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

Identify and recommend suppliers by researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials and preparing statements of work.

Develop potential bidder lists and formal requests for quotation or proposal.

Conduct supplier site visits and evaluate them on production capability, performance, delivery, and other key criteria; may support or lead supplier certification surveys.

Evaluate proposals from potential suppliers and select suppliers for highly complex or technical materials; negotiate price, delivery, quality, and service.

Develop alternate sources of supply by researching prospective suppliers.

Negotiate final terms and conditions of purchase, award and administer the procurement contract; maintain accurate lead times; issue purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect negotiated terms.

Monitor and evaluate supplier performance; implement corrective actions when needed and resolve shipment quality discrepancies.

Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over‑shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers.

Ensure supplier compliance with company and government or commercial procurement requirements; oversee technical and quality issues.

Prepare complex reports and analyses by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Apply continuous improvement techniques and methods to internal processes and systems; develop, coordinate, and implement improvement initiatives with key suppliers.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing trade publications, and participating in professional associations.

Comply with federal, state, and aerospace industry regulations; advise management on needed actions; adhere to Government/Commercial Practices Manual (GPM/CPM) policies.

We Are Looking for Talent With: Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (BA) in Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Six or more years of increasingly responsible related experience.

Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) or APICS desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of purchasing and negotiating methods, principles, and concepts.

Knowledge of industry practices, general business operations, and policies.

Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement.

Ability to assess and implement continuous improvement principles and techniques.

Proficiency with standard business application software and specialized purchasing and/or materials systems (e.g., EDI or MRP).

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with ability to handle complex problems.

Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Ability to work effectively across teams and manage multiple tasks.

Ability to drive goal‑setting, performance feedback, and self‑development activities.

Typical Mental and Physical Demands Employee must sit for most of the day, use hands to operate a computer, and talk or hear. Occasional standing and walking, close vision, regular attendance, and ability to manage multiple tasks. Overnight, long‑distance travel may be required based on position needs.
