Job Summary The Production Planning Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning department and ensuring that production schedules align with customer demand, inventory targets, and operational goals. This role leads a team of four planners, providing direction, support, and development to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all planning activities. The Production Planning Manager works closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams to balance capacity, materials, and resources, driving on‑time delivery and optimal production performance.

Job Duties

Responsible for executing the 80/20 strategy as it pertains to production planning

Lead the dialogue across departments such as Purchasing, Management, Production, IT and Transportation in support of the 80/20 business strategy

Protect the financial performance of the business by identifying and communicating potential supply chain impact

Lead and direct production planning team

Generate daily/weekly reports on open order status for all customers

Maintain production tracker and publish daily to applicable teams

Maintain schedule attainment and publish daily to applicable teams

Conduct detailed analysis of top 20 customers and their open orders, publish daily reports on status, and work with planners & buyers to hit required delivery dates.

Lead planning team to analyze open order status and identify and correct any roadblocks preventing on‑time delivery

Assist in investigation and identification of root cause and corrective actions for orders late to OPD

Assemble and analyze all data pertinent to create the stock status and inventory level reports (historical sales, market trends, seasonality, and order status)

Develop and distribute reports to be used in inventory and forecast planning meetings

Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately

Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)

Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures

Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Education

Typically require a bachelor's degree and at least 5-10 years of experience

Experience leading production planning in the manufacturing industry required

APICS (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent certification in demand planning, supply chain management preferred

Experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred)

Database query expertise

Comprehensive knowledge of the field's concepts and principles

Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures; may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning and procedural change
