Director Of County Airports County of Santa Clara is recruiting a Director of County Airports to oversee the operation and administration of the Reid Hillview Airport in San Jose and the San Martin Airport in South Santa Clara County.
Description Under the general direction of the Director of Roads and Airports, the Director of County Airports manages Aviation Operations. Aviation Operations is responsible for the operation and administration of County airports.
Typical Tasks
Formulate and implement airport operating policies and procedures including contracts, leases, agreements, permits and other regulations
Interpret and enforce policies and rules
Plan for and make recommendations on current and future facility and service needs
Direct the development and maintenance of the annual budget and other operational records and reports
Coordinate airport programs with local, state, federal and private agencies and other County departments
Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries
Represent the Department in the community and with other agencies
Evaluate and make recommendations on capital projects
Direct and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel
Review and make recommendations on legislation affecting airports and aviation activities
Perform other related work as required
Employment Standards Considerable education, training, and experience which will demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and abilities.
Experience A candidate would normally have graduated from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration or a closely related field and have five years of responsible administrative experience, two years of which must have been in airport management and operations.
Accreditation by the American Association of Airport Executives is highly desirable.
Knowledge
Principles and practices of public administration, business management, and budgeting
Airport service and facility management and maintenance
Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations pertaining to airport operations
Human relations skills
Abilities
Plan and develop current and long term airport programs
Prepare, recommend, and negotiate contracts, leases, and usage fees
Plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees
Prepare and present effective oral and written reports
Establish and maintain effective relationships with airport users, the public, governmental agencies, and County departments
