What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Applications Engineer to join our Tesla Energy Applications team. As an Applications Engineer focused on distributed energy, you will be the subject matter expert on distribution-connected commercial and industrial deployments of Megapack in behind-the-meter, microgrid, and data center applications. You will be responsible for development, testing and validation of applicable features into Tesla Energy projects. As a key technical member of the cross functional Applications Engineering team, you will be integral to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.
What You'll Do
Engage with customers and internal stakeholders and write technical product requirement documents, acceptance criteria, and test plans for new features and applications for distributed storage to improve Tesla's product offering.
Establish and document the development plan for features spanning cross functional teams. Unblock teams by clarifying requirements. Report out progress to leadership and other stakeholders. Define product and platform metrics and evaluate deployed performance against those metrics.
Develop internal and external technical documentation to educate customers and adjacent teams about newly deployed functionalities and compliance.
Respond to Service Engineering escalations related to interface, telemetry and system performance evaluation.
Engage in the development of industry standards and rulemaking for distributed energy applications to ensure rules are aligned with Tesla's product vision.
Provide technical support both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applications.
What You'll Bring
Degree in relevant Engineering discipline with 3+ years’ work experience or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
Demonstrated application of analysis, design, and testing to solve complex engineering problems.
Experience with energy projects, including with devices such as meters, inverters, SCADA controllers, and network systems.
Understanding of software development processes in cross-functional environments.
Ability to quickly become familiar with existing and new standards and regulations, understand subtleties and nuances of regulatory language, and stay up to date on the evolution of requirements applying to Tesla Energy projects. Knowledge of IEEE 1547 is a plus.
Self‑motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Detail oriented and conscientious.
Familiarity with data analytics tools, programming languages like Python, C, C++, RUST, GO and communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850 or OPC UA is a plus.

Expected Compensation $111,200 - $433,680/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
