The Electrical Engineer’s position is critical to the development, integration, and maintenance of electrical systems that ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of transportation systems. They must balance technical expertise with regulatory knowledge, project management skills, and a focus on system safety and reliability. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Must have the ability to work from limited information, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, or plans, often requiring interpretation. Able to create and interpret detailed electrical specifications and schematics. Understanding of basic electrical theories and concepts; resistance, voltage, and current. Experience with quality, troubleshooting, and problem-solving ideas and methodologies; interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with limited supervision. Familiarity with automating testing is a plus. Proficient with the use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and multimeters. Basic soldering skills required (i.e., soldering 0603, 0402, TSSOP, SOIC packages). Experience working with external board houses (PCB fabricators) and contract manufacturers. Able to design custom cables for production, and sometimes assemble one-offs for "Development and Testing" applications. Position Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Related Field: This is the minimum requirement. A degree from an accredited university is essential, covering subjects such as circuit analysis, electrical systems, control systems, power systems, and electronics. 4-6 years of experience in electrical engineering within the transportation, rail, or industrial sectors. Experience with electrical systems in a transportation context (e.g., trains, subways, or public transport systems) is highly advantageous. Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems for large-scale infrastructure projects is often required. This could include power distribution, signaling systems, train control systems, or other electrical components in rail or public transportation.
