Position Summary The Group Events Manager will be responsible for driving the organization’s revenue growth through the strategic management and execution of group ticket sales and single-game promotional initiatives for the Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx. This individual will lead a dynamic sales team, developing and implementing innovative strategies to maximize sales performance, enhance customer engagement, and strengthen the organization’s presence across key market segments.
In this position, the Group Events Manager will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, cultivating strong relationships with community groups, corporations, and other key partners, and delivering memorable experiences that foster long-term loyalty. The ideal candidate will combine a strong sales acumen with creative thinking, exceptional leadership, and a passion for delivering exceptional service.
Essential Functions
Develop organization’s group events plan including pricing, process, timelines, value proposition, resource allocation, as well as managing internal and external communication.
Create and execute annual strategic plans and operating budget with a focus on growing Timberwolves group revenue.
Research and identify potential new revenue opportunities and lead process to create a profitable business plan around each new product and offering.
Work with staff and team executives to establish and maintain relationships with organizations’ key stakeholders.
Oversee the recruitment, development and performance management of the Group Events staff.
Create and execute a training plan focused on the development of the Group Events Department.
Educate all departments on the integrated success of group product offerings, pricing and sales strategies, as well as market trends and industry best practices.
Hold staff accountable to the minimum hustle expectation through a combination of calls and meetings.
Set clearly defined daily, weekly, monthly and annual targets for all staff members, and provide training and guidance toward achieving individual and group goals.
Work with other Ticket Sales managers to develop strategies and tactics to reach and exceed determined revenue targets including Group Ticket Targets, Group Revenue Targets, and overall Group Sales for the Timberwolves and Lynx sales.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
High proficiency in ticket sales techniques and a strong ability to teach them to others.
Proficiency in working with computers, including Microsoft products, CRM, ticket sales platforms (AXS, Ticketmaster, etc.), and other related software is preferred.
Ability to work extended hours, which may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Ability to develop strong professional relationships internally and externally.
Ability to think creatively and develop strategy.
Knowledge of managerial best practices.
Strong work ethic and high personal accountability.
Experience Minimum four (4) years of experience working in professional sales and service is preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of management/supervisory experience preferred.
Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc. Knowledge of the professional sports industry with specific knowledge of sports sales and premium seating.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. In addition to working office hours, staff will be required to work all Wolves home games as as external events including, but not limited to, charity functions, networking events, etc. Work is both sedentary and active in nature, and the working environment is favorable. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena both on event days and non-event days. Staff may occasionally move objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
Travel Position may require travel to external events.
Benefits & Compensation
Sales Compensation: The base salary range for this exempt role will be: $70,000-$80,000 with the opportunity for bonus and based on revenue generated. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:
