Under limited supervision, the Construction Superintendent supervises and directs daily construction activities for county roads and other special projects. Assigns and monitors crew performance in repairing and maintaining roads, drainage, and signage. Leads and develops employees, ensures safety compliance, and oversees proper worksite layout. Supports Public Works emergency and disaster responses and contributes to long-term department planning. Reports to the Construction Manager. Ensure compliance with safety regulations at all worksites. Develop employee skills and maintain professional conduct standards. Manage, discipline, and assign personnel to maintain roadways. Oversee construction and repair of roads, bridges, and drainage systems. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local construction laws and regulations. Direct staff activities, assign workload, and supervise daily operations. Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback and recommendations. Interact with residents and citizen groups to resolve concerns. Maintain records for Public Works operations. Respond to service requests and complaints related to roads and drainage. Assist with inspections and monitor code compliance (OSHA, DES, etc.). Investigate and evaluate safety violations and accidents. Prepare and submit technical and administrative reports and documentation. Operate vehicles and standard office equipment. Perform related duties and respond to emergencies as required. Thorough understanding of construction methods for roads, bridges, and drainage. Knowledge of relevant laws and safety regulations (OSHA, DES, etc.). Strong leadership and team development skills. Effective verbal and written communication with employees and the public. Ability to handle emergency and disaster response operations. Skilled in preparing technical and administrative documentation. Proficiency in using computers and office equipment for recordkeeping. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Seven (7) plus years of experience in road maintenance and construction experience preferred.
