Position Overview Napa County is seeking a Public Works Superintendent to lead the Roads Division, overseeing the maintenance, construction, and repair of county roads, bridges, and related infrastructure.
About the Roads Division The Roads Division maintains approximately 450 miles of public roads, 79 bridges, and 50 major drainage structures. It also manages vegetation, guardrails, traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings.
Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and oversee projects related to roads, bridges, culverts, and waterways.
Lead staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors, ensuring compliance with standards.
Provide high‑level support to County staff, boards, committees, and external agencies.
Serve as liaison for road‑related safety efforts and public outreach.
Qualifications
Five years of increasingly responsible road or waterway construction or maintenance experience, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
Equivalent to completion of two years of college with major coursework in civil engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field; a bachelor’s degree preferred.
Valid California driver’s license.
Compensation Annual salary: $138,756.80 – $168,272.00 (Step 1 – Step 5). Step 1 hourly rate: $66.71; Step 5 hourly rate: $80.90. 3.5% COLA effective 07/01/2026.
Recruitment & Selection Process Applications close on 10/31/2025 5:00 PM Pacific. Selected candidates will be invited to an oral exam (panel interview) tentatively in mid‑November 2025.
