Position Title
Federal Work Study Customer Service Specialist – Welcome Center Receptionist
Overview The Department of Student Involvement and Leadership – Student Life is seeking Customer Service Specialists and Welcome Center Receptionists to perform the general duties and responsibilities listed below. Minimum 12 hours per week, including weekend shifts.
Responsibilities
Administrator: complete all necessary paperwork, maintain logs, attend scheduled shifts, and follow the staff manual protocols.
Customer Service: greet students, staff, faculty, and university guests; assist with campus navigation; keep the supervisor informed; help create a welcoming environment.
Clerical Aid: file records; respond to telephone calls; operate common office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and faxes.
Event Set‑up: assist with Student Center event setups, including tables and chairs; must be able to lift 10–20 lbs.
Security: protect patrons during events, enforce facility policies and capacity, deter theft, and know emergency evacuation and lockdown procedures.
Team Member: attend all training sessions, support the staff team, maintain positive communication with staff and all Student Life employees.
University Representative: serve as a positive role model; serve the needs of students, staff, faculty, and university guests; represent Student Life and ECU positively.
Student Competencies (NACE Top Ten Skills and CAS Learning Domains): effective communication, accountability/integrity, professionalism, problem solving, initiative, conflict resolution, teamwork, adaptability, organization, technical skills, work ethic, career and self‑development.
Qualifications Students must be enrolled at East Carolina University and in good academic standing. Minimum cumulative GPA 2.0. Federal Work Study Authorization form and résumé required.
