Sylvia's Child Advocacy Center
Sylvia’s CAC is a child‑friendly, trauma‑informed, multidisciplinary response to allegations of child abuse. The Victim Advocate supports children and non‑offending caregivers through crisis intervention, education, resource navigation, and ongoing case coordination. This is a grant‑funded position renewable annually based on funding allocation.
Job Responsibilities
Provide immediate, trauma‑informed crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support to child victims and non‑offending caregivers before, during, and after forensic interviews and medical exams. Explain MDT/CAC processes, victims’ rights, court procedures, and available services; offer warm referrals with handoffs (mental health, medical, legal, housing, transportation). Conduct follow‑up contacts to monitor safety, service engagement, and well‑being; document services and outcomes in case‑management systems. Coordinate closely with the MDT (law enforcement, DCS, prosecution, medical, mental health) while protecting client confidentiality and privileged communications. Accompany caregivers/children to hearings as appropriate; prepare victim impact/support materials in collaboration with the MDT. Participate in case review/MDT meetings; present advocacy updates and remove service barriers. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records compliant with funding (e.g., VOCA), accreditation (NCA), and audit standards. Participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours response. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the role. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social services, psychology, public health, or a related field. In lieu of a degree, an internship toward a relevant degree may be considered. 1–2 years of experience working with children and families (nonprofit or advocacy experience preferred). Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a trauma‑informed team. Screening & Legal Requirements
Must pass a comprehensive background check prior to start and at required intervals, including fingerprint‑based national/state criminal history, CPS history, National Sex offender registry, and local court record checks. Mandatory Reporter: all persons in Indiana must immediately report suspected child abuse/neglect. Training provided at hire.
