BIOLOGIST SUPERVISOR : GRAND ISLE/JEFFERSON PARISH

This position is with the Fisheries Research & Assessment Program in the Office of Fisheries and is domiciled at the Fisheries Research Laboratory located on Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish. The Fisheries Research Lab is a semi-remote field station with a dormitory available for staff use during the work week.
The incumbent supervises biologist staff at the Fisheries Research Laboratory, is responsible for creating and maintaining lab and field schedules, oversees day-to-day operations, facilitates administrative duties and paperwork, manages grants, generates technical reports, and maintains proper communication with biologist and administrative staff.

A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR
A non‑thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience; OR
A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience.

Job Duties
Creates weekly laboratory and field sampling schedules for biologist staff.
Coordinates with the Biologist Manager to prioritize and complete monitoring of state‑managed resources and regional fisheries assessment programs.
Manages large‑scale research and monitoring projects.
Summarizes data and generates/reviews figures, analyses, and text for technical reports.
Organizes and maintains vehicles, vessels, and equipment.
Maintains contact with field staff during multi‑day sampling efforts, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Participates in regional working groups as needed.
Represents LDWF with professionalism in all public events and forums.
Position Specific Details Appointment Type:
Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Career Progression:
This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group
Compensation:
The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
