Position Overview
It’s the Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter that supplies the life blood of our nation\'s military vessels. The work involves a volatile environment onboard, including fuel, steam, ventilation, hydraulic, chemical, heating and cooling systems. Job Description
An Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless materials, along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawings, arrangements and blueprints. Ingalls shipyard production areas may involve working at different heights, in confined spaces, in varying weather conditions, and across multiple shifts (24 hours a day). A Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night depending on ship construction activity. Ingalls emphasizes safe work practices with safety procedures meeting or exceeding industry standards.
Basic Qualifications
Basic math, reading and comprehension skills Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves Ability to read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints using metric and standard measurements
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills
