Position Overview
It’s the Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter that supplies the life blood of our nation’s military vessels. The volatile environment onboard involving fuel, steam, ventilation, hydraulic, chemical, heating and cooling systems demand that Ingalls Pipefitters are among the best in the world, and they are some of the best.
Job Description
An Ingalls First-Class Pipefitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blue prints. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of trade experience
Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves
Read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines
Familiarity with fit-up, alignment tolerances and advanced blue print reading skills
