High Risk Ultrasound Experience Required
Summary:
In the Perinatology team's Maternal-Fetal Medicine Sonographer role, your responsibilities will include conducting diagnostic imaging studies in all trimesters, including first trimester dating and early anatomic assessments, detailed second and third trimester anatomic assessments, fetal echocardiography, growth assessments, Doppler studies, and transvaginal ultrasound. You will work directly and exclusively with perinatologists in a high quality independent fetal imaging center which will allow you to simultaneously provide excellent ultrasound service while improving and maintaining your ultrasound skills and to obtain additional certifications, if needed. Protocols adhere to standards established by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).
Responsibilities:
Checks equipment and accessories to ensure proper working order and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs.
Performs pertinent duties in the best interest of patients, personnel and the facility as assigned. Participates in the modality specific QA/QC program and ensures compliance with regulations.
Evaluates patient's history and symptoms for the procedures clinical criteria and communicates with patients clearly and in a professional manner. Instructs/communicates with patient and/or patient's family (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate exam.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge, continued education and skills to provide appropriate care for the following age groups (specific to department): newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric.
Assists the physician as needed in performing additional imaging or biopsy procedures.
Consistently models and exhibits proficiency in MFM Ultrasound Technician lll competencies. Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria.
Completes exam charges and image documentation and forwards to radiologist in a timely manner.

Credentials:
Essential:
* BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)
* REGISTERED DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHER (RDMS)
Education:

* HS DIPLOMA/GED

Experience and Education:
Associates Degree in Ultrasound Technology or Graduate of Accredited Sonography Program required.
Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS Registry).
BLS Accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Incumbent must exhibit proficiency in the MFM Ultrasound Technician III required competencies (listed below)
Preferred:• Two (2) years' experience in ultrasound preferred
• Nuchal Translucency (NT) Certification is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
MFM Ultrasound Technician III required competencies:
•
o Medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology.
o Diagnostic imaging studies in all trimesters, including first trimester dating and early anatomic assessments, detailed second and third trimester anatomic assessments, fetal echocardiography, growth assessments, Doppler studies, and transvaginal ultrasound.
o Multiple forms of ultrasound imaging: transabdominal, transvaginal, multiplanar imaging, and multiple forms of Doppler assessment.
o Screening and diagnostic obstetric ultrasounds in all trimesters: First trimester studies for dating, aneuploidy screening, and early fetal anatomic assessment; Detailed/targeted second trimester ultrasounds for anatomic assessment and aneuploidy screening; Third trimester ultrasounds for anatomic assessments, fetal growth monitoring, Doppler studies, and antenatal testing.
o Advanced fetal imaging studies: Genetic sonograms; Multiplanar imaging for diagnostic purposes and post processing; Doppler studies for multiple clinical and ultrasound indications: Fetal echocardiography - screening and diagnostic; Multiple gestations.
o Ultrasounds related to invasive diagnostic testing - genetic amniocentesis
o Minimal gynecologic ultrasounds regarding findings relative to pregnancy: Mullerian anomaly evaluation; Adnexal pathology; Cervical assessment.
o Adherence to protocols established by accredited obstetric imaging organization: AIUM
