Description At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people’s lives around the world today, and for generations to come. We look for people who have bold ideas, courage, and a pioneering spirit to invent the future, while having fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity, and bringing your whole self to work. We design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation, and control of aircraft, spacecraft, submersibles, surface ships, missiles, launch vehicles, and upper stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight, Earth orbit, interplanetary cruise, and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation, or orbit in space. Control design and analysis processes consist of developing control laws and hardware/software requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles, and/or spacecraft. The candidate GNC Engineer will design, develop, implement, verify, and test high‑quality software and simulation toolchains for a 6‑degree‑of‑freedom (6DOF) simulation to design and test missile flight code, evaluate system performance, and implement guidance design into the missile flight code. Experience with missile flight dynamics, autopilot, guidance design, and trajectory‑optimization software and tools is required.
Basic Qualifications
9 Years with Bachelor of Science; 7 Years with Master’s; 4 Years with PhD
US Citizen
Experience working with missile guidance and control algorithms
Experience with missile simulation and flight dynamics
Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with IR discrimination and tracking
Experience designing, tuning, implementing, and testing guidance algorithms and autopilot parameters for guided missiles and/or interceptors
Control systems theory and flight dynamics proficiency
Proficiency in creating and maintaining analysis tools in C++, MATLAB, and Python
Proficiency in C++ development in a Linux environment
Proficiency in MATLAB and Python toolchains
Existing Secret clearance in scope at time of application
Primary Level Salary Range: $118,600.00 – $178,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice‑President or Director positions may be eligible for Long‑Term Incentives. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
