Senior Manager of Information Technology (IT) Job Overview

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Manager of Information Technology (IT) will provide hands‑on technical support to the organization ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our IT infrastructure, as well as provide strategic direction on IT policy and operations. The Senior Manager of IT will also ensure the smooth daily operation of technology for the States United team and lead strategic IT initiatives and policy implementation. This is a highly collaborative role that blends direct user support, systems monitoring and improvement, vendor management (including a Managed Services Provider [MSP]), and leadership on strategic IT projects.

Responsibilities

Perform all duties in accordance with States United’s values of integrity, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

IT Support & Troubleshooting: Provide hands‑on technical support for staff, resolving hardware, software, and network issues. Communicate solution plans, provide estimated timelines, and follow up with staff to ensure full resolution of issues. Work with Managed Services Provider where needed.

Software Access & Identity Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across various platforms, including Microsoft 365, and other essential tools.

M365 Administration: Maintain and optimize usage of M365 and other applications. Serve as the primary administrator of SharePoint and M365 infrastructure, including managing user accounts, licenses, security settings, and SharePoint sites.

Cybersecurity Management: Implement and uphold cybersecurity policies and best practices, aid in monitoring for security threats, and support staff in maintaining compliance with security protocols.

Vendor & Liaison Support: Act as the primary point of contact between States United and our MSP and cybersecurity consultants, ensuring timely resolution of problems, clear communication, high performance, and alignment with organizational needs.

Inventory Management and IT Cost Planning: In collaboration with MSP, oversee and maintain an accurate inventory of organizational technology assets, and aid in development of the IT budget. Offer expert advice to the COO and other key stakeholders on ensuring best value for IT contracts, purchases, subscriptions, etc.

Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor systems to ensure they remain in good working order, identify technological needs, and recommend innovative solutions.

Technology Planning & Policy Implementation: Align IT goals with organizational mission, assist in evaluating and recommending technology improvements and policies to enhance organizational efficiency and security, and oversee the rollout of policy changes, upgrades, and migrations, where necessary.

Staff Training: Aid in training staff on proper use procedures, security protocols, file management, and other training needed.

Business Continuity & Risk Management: Develop and execute proactive business continuity plans and risk management protocols for IT systems, including procedures to minimize downtime, safeguard resources, and ensure business continuity and viability.

Minimum Requirements

5+ years of experience in IT support and system administration.

Bachelor’s or associate degree in computer science, information technology, or other relevant field of study.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and general IT infrastructure.

Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and ability to implement security initiatives.

Experience in configuring and troubleshooting Apple and Windows systems.

Experience working with IT vendors and/or MSPs.

Experience managing artificial intelligence platform(s).

Project management experience.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.

Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work non‑traditional hours as needed.

Ability to travel as needed.

Ability to work in our Washington, D.C. office on a regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicable certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified, CISSP, ITIL, CompTIA A+, JAMF, etc.

Project Management Experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary for this position starts at $110,000+ commensurate with experience.

This position will be located in Washington DC, with a hybrid work schedule. The role may require occasional travel to attend organizational and team meetings and conferences.
