Job Summary NorthStar Academies in Pompano Beach, FL is seeking a Dean of Academics for Andrews High School. The Dean works with the Principal, Academic Officers and Assistant Principal in the management of curriculum and instruction. The Dean serves as the point of contact for all instructional staff, students, and parents for their specific program. The Dean provides guidance to instructors to ensure that each course is appropriate for students in the regular and summer programs. The Dean sets a professional tone for the program and serves as a positive role model for staff and students. The Dean provides for the systemic study and analysis of the teaching‑learning process and the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs; provides for the development, alignment, and implementation of quality curriculum to enhance student achievement; and plans and provides professional development for teachers and staff.
The Dean works as part of the instructional team to meet the needs of all students. Building relationships is a critical component of this learning environment; the team works together to identify student needs that may be barriers to success. Teachers collaborate with team members to analyze different means of meeting student needs and communicate with students, parents, and other team members about student progress and plans for next steps.
Essential Dean of Academics Responsibilities
Coach and train teachers to utilize appropriate research‑based instructional strategies to meet student learning needs.
Provide teachers with instructional support to deliver targeted interventions, modifications, and adaptations to all students with disabilities in accordance with their Individual Education Plans.
Review lesson plans and provide teachers with instructional support to deliver targeted interventions, modifications, and adaptations to English Language Learners in accordance with each ESOL student’s language proficiency level and identified instructional needs.
Direct and clarify expectations and responsibilities of instructional staff through training activities and immediate feedback.
Ensure that all instructional staff participate in the across‑school Professional Learning Communities sessions and in‑house Professional Learning opportunities.
Ensure that all instructional staff participate in the chartering district’s approved content‑area professional development opportunities.
Support instructional staff, encourage collaboration between instructors and teaching assistants, and gather information through classroom observations.
Work in a supportive and collaborative fashion with district personnel.
Provide leadership in the identification, evaluation, and selection of instructional programs, strategies, resources, and equipment to increase student achievement.
Work with School Administration to observe and evaluate the classroom environment.
Ensure that the instructional team administers formative and summative assessments including baseline, benchmark, and statewide assessments as per the school and district’s assessment calendars.
Ensure that the school implements a Direct Instruction cycle that is consistent with the state’s assessment calendar and aligns with the NorthStar Non‑negotiables.
Coordinate and implement an instructional data cycle that incorporates consistent data analysis used to formulate instructional decisions.
Ensure that all teachers maintain accurate student attendance records of all Direct Instruction classes in the in‑house Student Information System (eSchoolware).
Ensure that teachers maintain academic portfolios for students in Direct Instruction classes.
Provide information to the principal regarding teachers’ effectiveness in lesson planning, student learning, and classroom management.
Participate in school‑based leadership opportunities (e.g., team meeting, Lead teacher meeting).
Ensure teachers are organized, manage their time well, and use the appropriate research‑based curriculum that conforms with NorthStar, State, and District guidelines.
Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal.

Required
Bachelor of Arts Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in related field.
Florida State Teacher Certification.
Must be Reading Endorsed or willing to obtain a Reading Endorsement.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in education.
Knowledge of the social and cultural factors impacting employment success.
Familiarity with community employment resources and local labor market.
Preferred
Master’s Degree in related field and Florida State Teacher Certification.
Evidence of working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology.
Knowledge of employment/career education and guidance techniques and methods.
Experience working with at‑risk student population.
Evidence of educational experiences after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate coursework to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology).
Proven experience working with student population in some capacity.
