Position Highlights
Permanent full‑time position, 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday schedule
First shift, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM
The Role The Office Assistant will perform a full range of clerical duties to support the agency’s mission. Responsibilities include processing administrative and legal forms for accuracy and compliance with the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Act, coordinating with employees from other state agencies, claimants, attorneys, and insurance representatives, and supporting daily operations of the Commission.
About the WCC The WCC administers workers’ compensation laws, ensuring timely payments for injured workers, managing voluntary agreements, adjudicating disputes, and completing case settlements.
Responsibilities
Typing: enter and retrieve data, types documents.
Filing: set up and maintain filing systems.
Correspondence: compose routine correspondence.
Report Writing: compile technical, statistical, or financial reports.
Interpersonal: provide information and referrals, answer inquiries, apply agency policies and state statutes.
Process Management: maintain calendars, process documents, verify accuracy, process purchase requisitions, prepare payment lists, manage inventory, use electronic equipment.
Other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of office systems and proper telephone usage.
Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Arithmetic computations.
Execution of a full range of clerical tasks.
Operation of computers, tablets, and office suite software.
Workflow scheduling and prioritization.
Reading and interpreting complex instructions.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Two (2) years of general clerical work experience.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed College training may substitute for general experience: fifteen (15) semester hours equal one‑half (1/2) year of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience greeting and checking‑in external parties.
Triaging telephonic, fax, and electronic communications.
Telephonic customer service to claimants, attorneys, and insurance representatives.
Data entry and retrieval in computer applications.
Special Requirements Any supervisory or custodial role requires a high school diploma or GED certification by the time of permanent appointment.
