JOB DESCRIPTION Friends of Sherrod Brown is seeking a driven and passionate Deputy Communications Director to join our team. This role is a great opportunity to gain experience honing and executing on communications strategy, help manage a talented team, and experience working with the national and Ohio press corps.
Responsibilities
Work alongside the communications director to hone and execute communications strategy and across departments to execute on events and projects
Work with the wider communications team to implement communications strategy, overseeing day‑to‑day operations
Build and maintain relationships with the Ohio press corps and select national press
Pitch Sherrod Brown for press in‑state, nationally, and for cable TV
Draft communications materials including press releases, op‑eds, and talking points for Sherrod Brown and high‑level surrogates
Staff Sherrod Brown for interviews and select campaign events
Serve as an on‑the‑record spokesperson for the campaign
Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
2 cycles of campaign communications experience, or a relevant equivalent
On the record experience with reporters
Strong ability to write and edit materials on a tight deadline
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail, an ability to work under tight deadlines, and strong project management skills
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn new things
