Job Description Summary The Aftermarket Service Estimator will develop detailed cost analysis for complex Request for Quotation (RFQ). RFQs may include parts, labor, and sub‑contractor services. A broad knowledge of Fairbanks Morse Defense products and systems will be required to fully comprehend specifications, technical drawings, and project schedules. The individual will be responsible for communicating risks and developing mitigation plans. Works independently; performing a full range of responsibilities within the job function. This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure with challenging deadlines.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze technical solicitations, which includes:
Identifying project scope, including labor and part requirements
Documenting potential areas of concern and develop solutions to overcome
Gathering subcontractor quotes for inclusion in proposal
Review technical manuals and project schedules
Partner with service personnel to support the development of accurate quotes
Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors, customers, and contractors
Prepare a detailed cost analysis which includes all project costs
Define project risk for service work and build in mitigation plans to the project schedule
Presenting prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
Understanding of shipboard equipment installation, maintenance, and repair planning / cost estimating specifically with: diesel engines, motors & controls, valves & actuators, davits, elevators, lifts, & deck equipment, water treatment & purification, system flushing
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Minimum of two years' estimating experience, with background in a service, manufacturing or military environment preferred
Must demonstrate a high level of oral and written communications skills
Ability to read and interpret government Request for Quotes (RFQ) / Solicitations
General understanding of contracting requirements
Understanding of regulatory specifications such as MIL‑STD, ABS, ANSI, ASME, etc.
Understanding of cost control and physical progress concepts, project organization, scheduling, and risk assessment / management
Previous experience in use of Oracle or other ERP software is preferred
Previous experience with Salesforce is preferred
Demonstrates financial acumen (understanding of financial and accounting concepts/principles, drivers of profits and expenses, metrics, etc., to have sound judgment when making decisions and ability to understand the impact the decision will have on financial health of the organization)
Travel up to 10% required
This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is not releasable to foreign nationals (NOFORN) data.
