Marine Electrician (Entry Level) - Newport News, VA
Join the dynamic team at Serco supporting the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Ships in Newport News, Virginia. As a Marine Electrician, you will fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies while ensuring safe and successful work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations.
Responsibilities
Install and repair wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities
Follow blueprints and wiring diagrams
Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and thread wires
Strip insulation from wire ends and solder ends to terminals
Connect power‑supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment
Test electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance, and phase angle, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators
Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements
Perform maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits
Conduct insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effect repairs or replacements as required
Maintain adequate inventories of electrical spare parts and requisitions for replacements as required
Lift up to 50 pounds, with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds in a standing, crouching, or walking position; attention to safety critical
Qualifications
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
High School Diploma
6+ months experience in wire/cable pulling or electrical components
Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening
Ability to obtain an OSHA certification
Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
Attention to safety
Qualified to wear proper PPE, including respirator, throughout the work shift
Willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites around the area
Preferred Experience
Active Secret clearance
Shipboard experience
OSHA 10 certification
Familiarity with NAVSEA standard concepts, practices, and procedures within electrical repair, fabrication, and installation

Pay Transparency The range for this position is $34,362.00–$50,000.00. Actual base salary will be determined by factors such as role scope, experience, education, and geographic market. Eligible positions may include additional compensation such as annual bonuses or long‑term incentive opportunities.
