Children's Community Learning Disability Nurse The closing date is 13 November 2025
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our experienced Children’s Community Learning Disability Team.
You will work with children and young people aged 0‑18 who have a diagnosed learning disability and may present with additional needs such as:
Autism spectrum conditions
Mental health concerns
Physical health needs
You will provide specialist nursing input across a range of community settings including homes, schools, respite services, and clinics. The role involves family‑centred care and working closely with parents/carers, education providers, social care, and other health professionals to promote positive outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
Main duties of the job The key responsibilities of the job include:
Undertaking holistic assessments and contributing to multi‑agency care planning
Delivering evidence‑based interventions to support emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and physical health
Providing specialist advice and training to families, schools, and other professionals
Facilitating and conducting workshops and group work
Supporting safeguarding processes and contributing to risk assessments
Promoting health education and preventative care
Contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives
Maintaining accurate clinical records using electronic systems (Rio)
About us Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

Qualifications Part 5 or 14 of NMC register; 2‑3 years’ experience.
Knowledge
Ability to support people who have a learning disability on an individual and group basis in Lancashire and South Cumbria
Knowledge of contemporary health learning disability policy
Knowledge and skills in the assessment / management of risk
Demonstrates reflective practice.
Experience
Experience of working in community settings
Experience of working with children and young people who have learning disabilities
Experience of project development
Experience of managing others
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
