Responsibilities The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – Journey Traveler must be able to travel nationwide for 13‑week assignments. This position provides flexibility to travel the country and work in various settings. On assignment the SLP organizes and provides speech‑language services for the location to facilitate rehabilitation. They direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. They facilitate learning of essential skills and functions for communication and swallowing, to diminish or remediate disorders or deficits. They direct activities to promote and maintain health, within the scope of practice and consistent with the Code of Ethics of the profession.
Supervise CFYs temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
Deliver rehab services efficiently; adhere to an established plan of care, department and patient(s) schedule, and timely documentation of services.
Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences and other related meetings.
Make referrals to other disciplines or agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
Consult with other rehabilitation team members to select appropriate therapeutic regimens consistent with each patient’s needs and capabilities.
Adapt program and/or plan of care according to individual patient needs.
Promote a safe environment and enforce elimination of fire and safety hazards.
Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
Maintain, identify, and report equipment repair needs.
Prioritize Patient Service, ensuring residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes individuals’ needs and rights.
Required Responsibilities The SLP screens, examines, and evaluates patients, including history, systems review, and appropriate tests and measures. They synthesize information, interpret findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine the predicted level of improvement and the time required to achieve it, identify precautions/contraindications, and design a plan of care. The SLP develops appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with the patient and caregivers, implements the treatment plan, and completes all related documentation and record‑keeping. Perform Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) if specialized ASHA training has been received.
Coordinate acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in use.
Facilitate identification of hearing deficits and refer for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation and/or personal amplification.
Select appropriate activities suited to the individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
Instruct patients in necessary skills for therapeutic activities, evaluating progress, attitudes, and behavior.
Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress treatment plan.
Qualifications
Must possess a master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or a similarly titled area acceptable to the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association.
Ability to travel nationwide for 13‑week assignments.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Posted Salary Range: USD $55.00 – $70.00 per hour.
