Registered Nurse Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience required
First-time travel nurses accepted with at least 3 years of L&D experience
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Maine or compact state)
BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications required
Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
STABLE certification (must complete within 30 days of start)
Proficiency in all phases of Labor and Postpartum care, including newborn care
Comfortable caring for low acuity Med Surg overflow patients (no telemetry, no infectious patients)
Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive care for patients throughout Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum phases
Manage laboring patients, including shoulder dystocia, epidural management, nitrous and intrathecal spinal analgesia
Attend C-sections to catch babies and provide neonatal care (no circulating required)
Care for newborns: vital signs, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin babies, NAS babies
Support couplet care and rooming-in model (no dedicated nursery)
Occasional care for low acuity Med Surg overflow patients (average ratio 1:2-3)
Collaborate with midwives, OBs, charge nurses, and other clinical support staff
Document patient care using Cerner EMR
Participate in hospital and unit orientation
