Carleton College invites applicants to the position of Nurse Practitioner, which is an intermittent, hourly-paid, non-benefit earning staff position.
Position Overview
The
Nurse Practitioner – Per Diem
provides primary health care to college students (17-24 year olds) independently, within a collaborative team environment of Advance Practice Registered Nurses, Psychologists/Counselors, Psychiatric consultant and Dietitian. The APRN provides clinical services and preventative care to Carleton students, via scheduled individual appointments, telephone triage, and some walk-in care. Works closely with other members of Student Health and Counseling in the ongoing development of integrated physical and mental health services. Reports to Director of Student Health and Counseling.
Compensation
The expected hourly rate for this position starts at $55.00 and may increase depending upon qualifications. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessment including obtaining health/medical history, physical exam, ordering or performing and interpreting laboratory tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents and treatments, and non-pharmacologic therapies. Work independently of support staff, providing wraparound care during visits from rooming patients to performing phlebotomy. Consult with and make referrals to other members of the SHAC staff, and to off campus provers as appropriate. Identify best practices for medical care according to established professional standards. Provide care and programs with sensitivity to multicultural issues and needs of a diverse student population. Document all care provided in an electronic health record. Collaborate with other campus departments in meeting the health needs of the campus community

Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships with college students, their parents, the Student Health and Counseling team.

Work independently and collaboratively without direct supervision
Required
Educational / Experience / Skills
Education
Master's degree (or higher) in Nursing with preparation for the advanced practice role
Board Certification
Must be Board Certified by ANCC or AANP as Family, Adult-Geriatric, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Licensure
Must hold current Minnesota RN and APRN licenses in good standing
Skills
Comprehensive understanding of Advanced Practice Nursing-principles, methods, and procedures, and scope of practice in a college health setting Strong interpersonal, communication, and human relations skills Genuine interest in relating to and serving a college population Excellent organizational ability Self-motivated
Preferred
Two or more years of experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Experience in college health environment Current CPR/BLS certification
Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
